Mark Himmelman, a native of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, began his musical journey on the organ at just seven years old, playing his first church service by age eight. His formal training in piano and organ began at eleven with David Zwicker, complemented by studies with notable teachers such as Allen Wayte, F. Alan Reesor, and John Vandertuin. Mark earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Prince Edward Island and a Master of Arts in Community Music from Wilfrid Laurier University.
With a distinguished career as an organist, Mark has served in roles across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Ontario, and is currently the Director of Music at the Church of the Holy Saviour Anglican in Waterloo, Ontario. As a prolific composer, he has published over 50 works for organ, choir, handbells, and brass under his own label, M.D.H. Music, and was the composer in residence for the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers in 2014–2015. His performance career has taken him across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, and in 2006 he released his debut album, “Enigma.”
